Description

Yinka Shonibare was born in London and spent much of his youth in his parents´ native country, Nigeria. Educated in Lagos and London, at ease with both aspects of his dual heritage, he sees himself as a fully bicultural person. His artistic enthusiasm for combining juxtaposing and inverting disparate traditions makes his work especially significant today, as he tackles issues of identity, race and social and economic hierarchy which are of particular relevance to our time.
