Art can touch you in many ways. Kiasma’s collection exhibition for 2016 explores the relationship between the viewer and the artwork through the senses and physicality. Art challenges us to step closer and experience it in different ways other than just seeing. Contemporary art forces its way into our consciousness not only through our eyes, but also through our ears, fingertips and nostrils – it gets under our skin, so to speak. Named simply by using emoji symbols, the exhibition highlights the importance of emotions and memories as part of the art experience.
In addition to essays discussing the themes of the collection exhibition, this publication features the thoughts of Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa and an article by David Elliott that sheds light on personal history.
