Responsibility and sustainability
In our museum shops, we follow the Finnish National Gallery's Green Handprint programme. We measure our ecological impact every year, for example through the EcoCompass certificate. Examples of the Green Handprint actions in our museum shops:
- We sell sustainable and consumable products for everyday use.
- We give preference to recycled and recyclable materials.
- Our goal is transparency: the origin of products, their materials and production methods are always communicated.
- We aim for zero waste by optimising order volumes and sales.
- We focus our sourcing on local areas to minimise transportation.
- We avoid unnecessary packaging.
We continuously improve our operations, for example by training our staff and by designing our product range according to the principles of sustainable design.
Shipping and product packaging
Your e-commerce purchases are shipped through Posti’s carbon neutral postal service. Our online shop also offers a pick-up option at the Ateneum Art Museum. We pack your purchase in recyclable packaging whenever possible. If the packaging material is new, it is recyclable cardboard. We strive to minimise customer returns by providing our online customers with comprehensive information and pictures of the products. Therefore you can make an informed decision and the product is likely to meet your expectations.
Home and Decorations
Our household items are products for everyday and festive occasions. For example, our dishcloths are made from sustainably produced, biodegradable materials and printed in Finland with environmentally friendly pigments. Our trays, coasters and trivets are made in Pieksämäki from Finnish birch veneer.
Clothing and Accessories
In our textile products, we prefer recycled and organic materials and environmentally friendly inks. For example, our popular art-themed Loqi bags are made from recycled materials.
Games and Toys
Our art games are printed in Finland and the Baltics on responsibly produced paper and recycled cardboard. The games will last from generation to generation.
Office Supplies and Paper Products
Our paper products are printed on responsibly produced paper in Finland or in the Baltic States. Our popular art mice pads are made in Germany on material based on recycled plastic bottles.
Partnerships
We cooperate with small and responsibly operating domestic companies. For example, we have created jewelry inspired by the Finnish National Gallery's collections with the sustainable brand Mum's. Their production supports employment in developing countries and as well as the preservation of craft traditions.
