Ferdinand von Wright: The Fighting Capercaillies, 1886
Ferdinand von Wright’s The Fighting Capercaillies is undoubtedly one of Finland’s most well-known paintings, and also delights as the subject of many of our products. Von Wright’s animal-themed artworks were based on the meticulous observation of nature. While the artist himself cherished calm, he favored action and tension in his paintings. This painting depicts a battle between two suitors, observed from the sidelines by the object of their desires.
