Spain Beyond the Myths exhibition at Sinebrychoff Art Museum 11.9.2025 – 11.1.2026.
European travellers since the 18th century have been attracted by the exoticism of Spain, and especially the culture of the Andalusian region with its impressive bullfights and the captivating rhythm of flamenco. Spain Beyond the Myths presents Spanish painting, its phenomena and leading artists from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The exhibition at the Sinebrychoff Art Museum presents Spanish art of the period for the first time on such a scale in Finland.
This article in the publication was written by the exhibition’s curators, art historians Helena Alonso and J. Óscar Carrascosa, who guide the reader through paintings that draw on 19th century traditions and the ideals and myths of the Spanish identity towards a new era and international movements.
