Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was born in Helsinki, Finland, into an artistic family, and showed an early talent for drawing and storytelling. She is best known as the creator of the Moomins, a series of books and illustrations that have become beloved classics around the world. In addition to children’s literature, Jansson wrote novels and short stories for adults and worked as a painter and illustrator.
